Privacy
What Plain Money Notes collects, what its host processes, and how to contact the operators.
Plain Money Notes is jointly operated under the public editorial names Jordan Buffet and Jack Buffet. This policy describes the current website as published through GitHub Pages.
What the site collects
The current site does not include advertising, affiliate links, visitor accounts, comments, or an email collection form. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand aggregate traffic and page performance. We do not use it to build a personal profile about you, chase you around the web, or collect information we do not need. Your data privacy matters more than squeezing one more chart out of your visit.
GitHub Pages hosts and delivers the static website. GitHub may process information such as IP addresses and ordinary request logs to operate, secure, and troubleshoot the service under the GitHub Privacy Statement. Plain Money Notes does not receive a visitor-level analytics feed from that hosting activity.
Cloudflare Web Analytics
Each page loads Cloudflare’s external Web Analytics beacon and sends aggregate measurement data to Cloudflare. The dashboard reports visits, page views, page-load performance and Core Web Vitals, along with dimensions such as page path, referring site, country, device type, browser, and operating system. Cloudflare says Web Analytics does not collect or use visitors’ personal data, does not track individuals across its customers’ sites, and does not log URL query strings. For manually installed sites like this one, beacon data is sent to cloudflareinsights.com.
Here is the mildly smug part: we cannot misuse a detailed personal analytics profile that we never create. Cloudflare’s beacon does not use cookies, local storage, session storage, IndexedDB, or browser fingerprinting to follow you. We therefore do not show a cookie-consent prompt for this analytics integration. That is not a loophole; it is the result of choosing a smaller tool because your privacy matters. If we later add technology that stores nonessential information on your device, tracks people, or otherwise requires consent, we will update this policy and add the appropriate controls before turning it on.
Cloudflare receives the source IP address as part of ordinary network delivery but says its Web Analytics service discards that address at the nearest data center rather than storing it in core databases or logs. Cloudflare retains unsampled beacon data for seven days, then aggregates it for longer-term storage; the Web Analytics dashboard currently makes the previous six months available. See Cloudflare’s Web Analytics privacy description, data-collection documentation, and privacy policy for its current practices.
Planned email collection
If email subscriptions are added, the form will explain what the address will be used for. Newsletter subscriptions will require a separate affirmative choice and confirmation, and every marketing message will include an unsubscribe mechanism.
